INTERIOR MASTERCLASS EVENTS

BROUGHT TO YOU BY

THE BRITISH INTERIORS & TEXTILES ASSOCIATION

This October BITA are hosting Interior Masterclass Days in London, Leeds and Birmingham for you to learn more about an array of industry specific skills.

Masterclass Day sessions include a lampshade tutorial, a cutting and pinning loose covers demonstration and either a roman blind or curtain presentation. You do not need any prior experience to attend these masterclasses, just the enthusiasm to learn new and exciting skills!

Introducing your Masterclass Presenters:

Sallyann Rolfe – Cutting Loose Covers Masterclass

d643a52b-ed2a-4968-9877-8b85590cedd7

Sallyann will demonstrate the intricateness of loose covers by covering pattern placement, tuck aways and easing fullness. Sallyann will pin directly onto a piece of furniture to create a neatly tailored loose cover. You’ll learn how to cut and pin loose covers and also learn about fabric pattern placement.

Sharon Samuel – Lampshade Masterclass and Roman Blind

sharon samuel
Sharon is a soft furnishing designer who designs curtains, blinds, cushions, lampshades and many more. Her lampshade masterclass covers an introduction to lampshade crafting, including: how to prepare a frame for the shade, how to attach fabric and adding trim to the finished shade. Sharon is also teaching a Roman Blind masterclass using the new technique of taping rather than sewing. This new method known as ‘wonder webbing’ joins fabric without a stitch when hemming, patching or trimming. Ideal for blind maker beginners and for saving valuable time.

Victoria Hammond – Curtain Masterclass

Join Jane Warren from The Lampshade Loft in a demonstration of how to make a drum bespoke lampshade, with tips and tuition on how to finish to a high professional level. You will also be shown how traditional hand sewn lampshades are made – a much longer process (everything is hand sewn) but a high-end offering to customers and a sought-after skill.

FTCT’s 160th Anniversary at The House of Lords

27113677173_6b8181e19e_oBITA’s Marketing Director joined a host of well-known UK textile brands at The House of Lords to celebrate the 160th Anniversary of the Fashion & Textiles Children’s Trust.

Diane Harding showed her support at the House of Lords in celebration of the Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust, BITA’s chosen charity organisation.

Alongside Diane, the guest list included well-known retail companies and manufacturing industries, who travelled from all over the UK to show their support, such as: Nigel Oddy from House of Fraser, Steve Rowe from M&S and Lord Stone of Blackheath.

Representatives from other charities where also present at the event, including: Gingerbread, Turn2Us and Buttle UK. Including one of the founding trustees for Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust, Gerald Dickens, great-grandson of Charles Dickens.

Diane Harding, said: “BITA have thoroughly enjoyed working with FTCT for the past five years. It is a fantastic charity and we will continue to support them in achieving their mission to raise awareness in order to help more families.”

The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust support families in the UK fashion and textile industry by providing grants to families that are going through tough financial spots. These grants can help buy school uniform to specialist mobility equipment.

Anna Pangbourne, FTCT Director and Meg Lustman, Chair of Trustees, during the evening outlined their plans to double the amount of children FTCT support by 2019.

Meg Lustman, said: “Our purpose is very simple and clear. FTCT is here to give money to families in need and our goal is to help many more families. So our first and most important objective is to raise awareness of the charity and that we are here to help. We hope that everyone who attended last night’s event will help us achieve our goal by referring families to FTCT and distributing our information among their colleagues and staff.”

If you know a family that might benefit from receiving a grant from FTFC call on 0300-123-9002 or visit their website www.ftct.org.uk
